Condiments…To Filch or Not To Filch?

I came across this fun article that created a valid point when it comes to people stealing condiments from restaurants. It is directed toward fast food establishments but I’m sure the average dine-in  restaurant can relate. Ketchup packets cost  about .01 – .03 ea. So for every 1000 orders of french fries sold that is $10-30. On a grander scale that’s $500-1500 for 50,000 fries, burgers or steaks (or a combination thereof) sold per year!

So my suggestion to our private label customers is to make them available for sale at a modest price. I think customers are less likely to put a whole bottle of hot sauce or steak sauce in their pocket or purse anyway but at least this way you have you are advertising your restaurant in their home 24/7.  I think people are happy to pay for something they like and has value to them.
